Children are often told what to read. And adult authors sometimes write books that they think children should read. But what books do kids really want to read? Should parents dictate what children can read, but risk turning their kids off books? Where\u2019s the balance and how do authors navigate the sometimes opposing demands \u2013 to create books that parents approve of or to create books that children find engaging?     Emily Lim-Leh is an award-winning author of over 50 children\u2019s books. She was named Mediacorp\u2019s Singapore Woman Award Honoree for inspiring readers and is a recipient of the Public Service Medal (Covid-19) from the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, Singapore, for her voluntary book initiatives for the community. Little Hero, her junior historical fiction, was inspired by her father\u2019s childhood stories in 1940s Singapore, and ranked as Amazon Singapore\u2019s #1 Bestseller, Children\u2019s Books. Her latest book Dung, Dung, Dung, DUNG!, co-written with author Pauline Loh, digs into the importance of unseen creatures and their pivotal role in our forest ecosystem.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Joy has worked in publishing for the past 18 years. She has launched and edited several magazines in Singapore including Appetite, BBC Good Food (Asia), Food & Travel and Lonely Planet (Asia). She is the co-author of Heritage Feasts, and Tricks & Treats\u2026 and Other Childhood Tales, both of which have won the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2011. She also edited Savour Chinatown, an evocative history and cookbook on Singapore\u2019s heritage district. Recently, Joy wrote Attack at the Mall and The Runaway Car as part of the SGSecure initiative. She is currently working on her next children\u2019s book. She holds a BA (Hons) degree in English Literature, and an MA in English Literature.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Hwee was classically trained at the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, and was a TV journalist and Editor at Channel NewsAsia, before extending her writing to children\u2019s books. Hwee is known on the #bookstagram circuit and regularly interviews international bestselling authors on tour through Singapore.
